The former mayor of Prince George is keeping a close eye on the turf war playing out in Surrey.
Shari Green’s city was once labelled “the most dangerous place in Canada.”
Green says she became close friends with former Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts, as both cities tackled crime problems.
“Prince George did model its crime reduction strategy after some of the success that Surrey had had. We’ve seen some real positive results in our community from that.”
Green says obviously, there’s been a shift in Surrey, but she doesn’t think it’s because of any lack of effort from the city or police.
She says this is just the cyclical problem with drugs and gangs.
“They think they’re above the law, they can do anything, they’re indestructible. That can happen anywhere.”
