Police say they have a plan to stop the gun violence in Surrey.
Several police agencies held a news conference Monday morning after the local turf war claimed its first victim last weekend.
Arun Bains, the 22-year-old nephew of local MLA Harry Bains, was shot and killed.
RCMP say solving the problem is not about throwing more officers at it.
They are reaching out to community leaders and appealing to families to try to get both suspects and victims to speak up.
“We have created a tipline,” Chief Supt. Bill Fordy told reporters. “The telephone number is 604-915-6566.”
He also points to the community forum set for Tuesday night at Tamanawis Secondary.
The RCMP maintain they have not failed the residents of Surrey, saying this could happen in other cities.
