The annual Vaisakhi parade will take place in Surrey this morning with more than 250-thousand people expected to attend.
The parade will begin at approximately 9:30, featuring the usual accompaniment of music, dancing, and floats representing schools, community groups, and organizations.
Surrey RCMP will be out in full force as well – not just in the wake of violence over the last few weeks but to also participate in the festivities.
NDP leader Tom Mulcair is also in town to partake in the event; he will join local MPs Jinny Sims and Jasbir Sandhu in the morning.
Road closures will be in effect between 72 and 88 Avenues, to 132 Street in the east, and 123 Street in the west.
