Vancouver Vinyl fans lined up – some before dawn – for international record store day today.
The day gives aficionados a chance to buy one-day only limited release albums as a way to revive interest in a once flagging industry.
In Vancouver – Ken Denham and his daughter Vanessa were first in line at Commercial Drive’s AudioPile records – hoping to score a hard to find White Stripes album.
“Well we wanted to get here early because my daughter she’s getting into vinyl, she wanted to get some of the limited releases so I base it on past history – you don’t know what the demand is so get here early regardless. There’s lineups at Neptoon records on main since like, 2:30.”
The event began in 2007 and has grown rapidly since – helping to lead a turntable revival – and proving that for some there’s just nothing like that vinyl sound.
