Jobs, jobs jobs! Vancouver’s largest career fair is in town this weekend.
CEO of Vancouver Economic Commission, Ian McKay says Vancouver is the visual effects headquarters in North America. He calls it a 30 year overnight success, saying that the changes to how movies are made, with the emphasis on special effects, has put Vancouver in a very good position.
“We are in the sweet spot of the evolution of the film industry.”
In order to get the word out that this is a very lucrative industry with thousands of jobs right here in Metro Vancouver, the job fair will also feature an Education Alley, in partnership with the Vancouver School Board. Mckay says they want to get the word out to families that this industry is a good career choice.
“You don’t need to go anywhere if you’re looking for a job in film, or special and visual effects.”
- Close to 40 Vancouver companies are hiring including Electronic Arts, Bardel Entertainment, MPC, Roadhouse Interactive and Sony Pictures Imageworks.
- Over 1400 job seekers are expected to show up.
- VES has also partnered with the Vancouver School Board’s “Education Alley” to prep high school students for the training and development they need to score jobs in the DE&I sector.
