Dozens of protesters are outside Vancouver’s Ross Street Gurdwara to greet the Prime Minister of India when he arrives this afternoon.
One of the organizers, Harjat Grewal, says it’s heartbreaking Canada is turning a blind eye to Narendra Modi’s past because of trade agreements.
“This man has literally has blood on his hands. When you’re signing trade agreements with these people, oftentimes western countries are always critical of doing business with like, rogue regimes in the global south. This guy represents the most rogue regime in the global south, if not one of the most scary regimes that there is.”
He says when Modi was the equivalent of a premier in India, thousands of Muslims were killed under his watch.
