The City of Vancouver is moving forward with a contentious land swap deal involving a private developer, despite a lawsuit still making its way through the courts.
Vancouver City Council has approved a re-zoning application for 508 Helmcken following a second public hearing on Tuesday.
That’s the city owned space where Brenhill Developments wants to build a 36 storey tower near Emery Barnes Park.
The extra density is in exchange for a new social housing complex at 1099 Richards.
A BC Supreme Court judge quashed the project earlier this year, saying the city was to secretive about the deal.
But the City and developer appealed.
Those appeals will be heard this week.
