A former Abbotsford middle school principal has been suspended for professional misconduct.
He failed to report a teaching assistant whom he was in a personal relationship with was using drugs.
A discipline decision released by the Teachers’ Regulation Branch says Michael Ewert asked the TA not to drive students in her car because of her substance abuse problem, but failed to report her to district administration.
This happened in the spring of 2009 at Colleen and Gordie Howe Middle School.
Ewert must also take a course on boundaries.
The branch says Ewert used his power and authority to enter into personal relationships with two other TA’s over a four year span.
It included sending intimate text messages during school hours.
Ewert resigned in February 2012 following a district investigation.
His teaching certificate has been suspended for four months.
