The future of the Georgia Street viaducts is facing greater scrutinee with news that St. Paul’s Hospital is moving east of Main Street.
Councilor Geoff Meggs says he expects people around the False Creek Flats, where the hospital will be built, will welcome the hospital but will be concerned about what will happen to traffic in their neighbourhood.
“I think it underlines the importance of considering the role of the viaducts. We haven’t made a decision on the viaducts but important staff analysis is coming back right now and it’s to replace the viaducts not to remove them. Arguable the new connections would be far superior because they would connect north and south as well as east and west.”
Meggs says the growth of that area was inevitable so it has been part of the analysis done on the viaduct’s future.
