Another recall effort has been given the blessing of Elections BC this time targeting the Liberal MLA in Burnaby North.
Recall organizer Jennifer Heighton says they have until June 15th to sign up 40-percent of the ridings registered voters.
She says its a tough task.
“So if we can just get out there and get it done in 60 days then yes we do have a really good chance of being successful.”
Heighton adds the requirements to recall an MLA are very high.
“However in terms of how people feel and all of the issues that are out there, there is more than 40% of the people who have been ignored.”
Richard Lee is accused of being invisible on issues like Burnaby Hospital and the Trans Mountain pipeline.
“My position is very clear. We have the five conditions for Kinder Morgan to satisfy before I am actually in a position to support that project.”
Overall Lee is not very happy about being the target of a recall campaign.
“I have been working really hard for the city for the last 14 years and that is why I have got the people’s support to elect me. If they don’t like it they can actually voice their opinion in the next election.”
Another recall effort is also underway against Maple Ridge MLA Marc Dalton, it is the second recall effort aimed at Dalton in his political career.
Since the legislation was introduced in 1995 there have been 25 efforts to recall an MLA and to date none of them has succeeded.
