The Vancouver Park Board has voted to keep sales of bottled water at Vancouver community centers, beaches, and parks.
It came down to party lines, as two green and one Vision commissioner voted in favour of the motion to phase out sales of bottled water, while four NPA commissioners voted against it- defeating the proposal.
However, all Park Board officials voted unanimously to direct staff to investigate more water fountains and filling stations.
Michael Wiebe says he will continue to advocate for environmental awareness.
“Our water is tested three to five times daily; some of the facilities only test theirs every three months. We have very clean, healthy water.”
The board also asked staff to review its response to the oil spill and update its emergency response plan if necessary.
