A Vancouver Parks Board commissioner wants to eliminate the sale of bottled water from city parks, and bring in water fountains and filling stations.
“We need to look at ways that we can reduce our waste,” Michael Wiebe says. “This is a great opportunity to increase the amount of fountains we have in Vancouver, increase the amount of filling stations we have. Really promote our our tap water.”
Wiebe says the timing to propose the changes is just right. The city’s contract with Coca Cola, which supplies drinks for city park vending machines and concession stands, ends in 2016.
Wiebe’s motion goes before the park board at a meeting Monday night.
