Surrey’s Mayor is clarifying her reluctance to comment on thirteen recent shootings in her city in just over a month.
Speaking on CKNW’s Simi Sara Show, Linda Hepner says she doesn’t have a problem talking about crime in her community.
She says there needs to be balance about when she should speak on an incident, and when it should be coming from the RCMP.
“I am not the expert, and I leave some of that to the police operational decisions, and I have every confidence that they’re doing that which needs to be done.”
Hepner says she wants residents to know that she finds the recent spate of shootings as “sickening and deplorable” as they do.
Earlier this week she complained to a Surrey newspaper reporter that it’s not fair that she is the “first call” when there is a shooting her community.
