As Canucks fans celebrate Vancouver clinching a Stanley Cup playoff spot, downtown’s bars and restaurants are also cheering.
Charles Gauthier with the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association says every playoff game, the Canucks are in will bring an additional $1 million to the local economy.
“What it means is approximately one million dollars conservatively for the restaurants and the bars downtown. Those that show the games or those that are catering to fans that are going for meals prior to the games.”
Gauthier adds some restaurants and bars will add more staff to cater to the large crowds.
Vancouver Police will monitor the “tone of the city” as the team progresses through the playoffs
Sergeant Randy Fincham says they don’t expect any significant incidents during round one.
He adds that it’s too soon, at this point, to say if there will be public viewing areas if the Canucks get through to the later rounds.
