It’s becoming easier to get tested for a sexually transmitted infection.
The BC Centre for Disease Control has launched the first online service in Canada that covers STI’s including HIV and Hepatitis C.
Get Checked Online allows people to get a lab requisition on the web, go to a LifeLabs location for testing, and then get an email that lets them know when results are ready.
Program Manager Devon Haag says the goal is to break down barriers.
“We know that there’s a lot of stigma out there and people aren’t necessarily comfortable discussing their sexual health with their doctor. And so this gives another way for people to access appropriate sexual healthcare.”
That group makes up over half of all new HIV infections each year.
