The Vancouver School District has taken swift action, upon learning that a student at Lord Byng Secondary School could possibly have contracted the measles.
VSB spokesperson Kurt Heinrich says they wasted no time notifying parents yesterday and working with Vancouver Coastal Health to set up an immunization clinic at the school.
“The good news is that the majority at students at Byng already had immunizations which was really good to hear. But we did want to provide that service to any students that weren’t sure or didn’t have immunizations.”
Coastal Health confirmed yesterday that the student is one of two possible cases linked to four Burnaby students who brought measles back from a school trip to China.
That Burnaby high school, Carver Christian, has since changed its policy to ensure students going on school-sanctioned trips are immunized.
Vancouver Coastal Health will not say how, or where, the individuals with possible cases came into contact with the four students from Burnaby.
