“We were promised a certain type of housing on the campus at a certain rate while pursuing the family.”
Just one of a number of residents facing not only no home, but no degree.
40 students at Louis Riel House on SFU’s Burnaby Campus are facing evictions because of a mold problem. But they aren’t being placed into alternative housing.
SFU student Teresa Dettling says she the other students want to know why the school isn’t listening to their concerns.
“The tenants have explained, ‘we are too poor to move.’ When someone says, ‘I’m too poor to move,’ and you say, ‘okay! I’m going to help you by telling you websites for moving companies!’ Well…I can’t pay movers. I don’t understand what is too hard to understand about ‘I’m too poor to move.'”
Dettling says they’ve also had over 1-hundred and 60-professors sign a letter to the school’s President outlining the need for these students to have long term, affordable housing.
