The Red Cross is appealing to the public for help in light of the Maple Ridge fire that took the homes – and the belongings of over one hundred people last week.
Elysia Dempsey with Disaster Management says many still don’t have a place to live.
“One of the major needs is long-term housing for these residents. There seems to be a limited amount of housing available and so we’re putting a plea out to public for any of these residents to please call us.”
The Salvation Army in Maple Ridge is accepting donations of furniture and clothing.
“They’re starting to look at longer term accommodation options. And some of them have vulnerabilities, whether it’s pets or some mobility challenges that are making it difficult for them to find housing.”
Dempsey is urging anyone with an available rental unit to reach out to the Red Cross.
The number to call is 604.848.4384.
