School trustees in Vancouver have approved plans to create a special office to oversee much-needed seismic upgrades across the district.
Today was the deadline set by Education Minister Peter Fassbender for the VSB to get on board.
Chair Patti Bacchus says the focus needs to be on getting 600-million dollars worth of upgrades done.
“We’ve had some compromises here. We’ve had discussions and we’ve agreed to do that because we want to speed up these upgrades and we’re very happy that this should mean that the funds should start flowing more quickly to get these projects done.”
Bacchus says trustees still have concerns the provincial government has too much control, but putting up more resistance would further delay work which should have been done years ago.
