It’s been one pricey wildfire season in this province… and it’s far from over.

Dustin Eno with the BC Wildfire Management Branch says its already blown through 242 million dollars– that’s four times the original budget of 63 million.

Eno says there are 159 active wildfires at the moment, with more than 330-thousand hectares burned– almost setting a new record.

“This year has been an interesting year for fires, we have actually seen significantly fewer starts than most years, the average is 1600 starts each year, but the fires we have had have been much bigger, and the main factor in that is weather.”

Eno says there are still pockets of extreme fire danger ratings in the coastal centre.
