Tense moments Tuesday afternoon in Nanaimo as police ordered the lock down of Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

Sgt. Sheryl Armstrong with Nanaimo RCMP says police ordered the lockdown of the hospital after staff reported receiving a serious threat.

“A significant threat made towards the hospital they felt was of a serious concern. They immediately notified the RCMP. We immediately locked down the hospital until we could do a proper investigation into the threat. Within 35 minutes we identified the person and had him arrested without incident.”

Armstrong says the suspect arrested, a 39 year old Nanaimo man, was unarmed.

At this time RCMP are not releasing details on what the threat was or why it was made.
