Jail time in "sextortion" case

A 23 year old North Vancouver man is going to jail for extortion after threatening to release a sexually explicit video of a young woman.

The judge sentenced Mark Webber to sixty days in jail to be served on the weekends.

Two and a half years ago, he sent a Facebook message to the victim, threatening to release the video he obtained from her boyfriend’s phone, which was stolen, unless she sent him nude photos.

When she didn’t comply, he sent the video to a few of her friends, and posted it to a porn site.

She suffered massive psychological harm, quit her job and university, and ended up on antidepressants.

Webber pleaded guilty.

His lawyer says he’s turned his life around.

  1. Pathetic indeed- why isn’t he paying restitution to the victim for the rest of his life.
And it’s another prime example why the public needs to be able to elect judges.
