Power outage in Downtown Vancouver

The power is out for 1500 customers in downtown Vancouver.

“The cause of the outage is an equipment failure at one of our substations.”

That’s Mora Scott with BC Hydro.
The outage runs west from the West Georgia entrance to the Stanley Park Cuaseway, north to Coal Harbour.
It runs east to Thurlow street and south to Haro.

“Equipment does fail from time to time. Our crews as I mentioned are on site and they are working to restore power as swiftly and safely as possible. And we hope to have it back up by 8pm.”

Vancouver Police are warning that the outage is causing a large traffic hazard, as many traffic lights are out.
