An ammonia leak is going to foul morning traffic.
The leak in Mission has resulted in the RCMP closing the Lougheed highway from Stave Lake Street to Manson Street.
Inspector Bryon Massie says “around 3 this morning, Mission Fire Department reponded to a frozen foods processing plant along the Lougheed Highway here in the 33900 block of Lougheed Highway, where the employees there were reporting an ammonia leak. The subsequent leak, has required that the police cut off the Lougheed Highway.”
Massie says boaters and fishermen are also being kept off the Fraser in the area until the gas cloud disappates.
“The frozen food plant also runs right parallel to the Fraser River, and that appears to be the direction that the significant part of the ammonia leak is headed.”
He says there are no homes affected.
