Latest casualties of ongoing teachers' dispute are children with special needs

The parents of children with special needs are worried they will lose financial support from the BC government if the teachers’ dispute drags into September.

New Westminster mom Anne Belanger says the $3,200 a month she normally receives for daycare when her son’s not in school is the equivalent of a mortgage payment.

She’s received a letter from a service provider indicating that funding will be cut off and she must now consider taking a leave from work which she can’t afford.

New Democrat MLA Judy Darcy says Belanger’s son is not getting the support he deserves, so he’s “falling between the cracks.”
