A high-ranking civil servant in Christy Clark’s government is suing an NDP MLA.
Athana Mentzelopoulos, the deputy minister for jobs, tourism and skills training, is accusing New Democrat Rob Fleming of defamation.
In court documents filed last week, she claims Fleming made false statements about her in an email to a BC NDP mailing list on July 22.
The email claims the Premier’s “friends” are cashing in at the expense of kids.
The documents say the email mentions Mentzelopoulos’ salary and pay raise last year, and compares it with what Fleming claims is zero funding for students.
She denies she benefits from cronyism and that she received public funds she doesn’t deserve.
Mentzelopoulos says Fleming refuses to retract the email or remove it from the Internet.
The allegations have not been proven in court and a statement of defense has not yet been filed.
