Vancouver, BC, Canada / (CKNW AM) AM980

Police have confirmed one man is dead and another is in custody following a fatal shooting in the Newton District of Surrey.

Emergency crews, including homicide investigators, have gathered at a residence on 60th Avenue near King George boulevard.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says police were called to the scene around 1pm Tuesday afternoon.

RCMP arrived to find a man pronounced dead inside a home.

A man was also arrested at the scene.

IHIT says the victim and the suspect knew each other.

A witness tells CKNW that he heard three loud bangs at the scene of a homicide in Newton this afternoon.

Robert Dellamalva says it is unnerving someone was killed so close to his home.

Dellamalva says he heard two men yelling near a fifth wheel trailer at a home in the 14000 block of 60th avenue just past 1pm.

“As I was leaving my house I heard a bunch of yelling and screaming. As I came around to the back of the driveway where my car is I heard three pops. Pop pop pop. Between two and three. Definitely two but I am sure three.”
