As the Drought Hill wildfire near Peachland remains at 40 hectares, rising temperatures over the weekend have fire crews on high alert.
“The wildfire management branch responded to 18 new wildfires today. Although most of these were lightning caused, a big concern for us is that six of these new fires were human caused.”
Human caused fires are one problem, strong winds and gusts are quite another.
Combine that with more dry lightning and Navi Saini with BC wildfire management branch expects to be busy this weekend.
“With the danger rating being as high as it is, we are anticipating new wildfire starts. New wildfires that do start will spread quickly and will challenge fire suppression efforts.”
The Chelaslie River wildfire continues to burn at 88 thousand six hundred hectares which is generating smoke for residents in the Smithers and Vanderhoof regions.
