A popular kids’ summer camp in the Fraser Valley is being sued by parents of a boy who broke his spine after falling from a climbing wall.
It was almost two years ago to the day that the 15-year-old boy was climbing – or trying to descent – the indoor climbing wall at “Stillwood Camp and Conference Centre” when he had an uncontrolled descent and fell to the floor.
The teen broke his spine and now relies on his parents to get by day to day.
In a writ filed in BC Supreme Court the parents say the fall was caused either because the ‘fall protection system’ used by their son failed or he wasn’t properly secured.
The parents also accuse the camp of failing to properly train those supervising the wall and say helmets and padding in the landing area may have reduced the risk of injury.
Calls to the camp’s Executive Director have not been returned.
