The August long weekend continued in style in downtown Vancouver as the Vancouver Pride Parade brought more than 500,000 people out to celebrate under the rainbow flag.
It was a day for people to show their true colours; all of them.
The Vancouver Pride Parade began on Robson and Bute as people from all different walks of life gathered to show their support for the LGBTTQ community and celebrate the advancements towards ending homophobia and transphobia in all their forms.
For many individuals who took in the event, it’s an important day.
“Just nice to see everybody out, enjoying it, having a good time from all different walks of life whether they’re part of the LGBTTQ community or not.”
“I’m a big supporter of equal rights for everybody.”
“I think it’s normalizing something that needs to be normalized a bit in society.”
“I think it’s about acceptance and about celebration, diversity, and having fun.”
Tears of joy from some parade participants illustrates the event is a day to celebrate diversity.
