If you’re hoping to roast marshmallows over open flames this holiday weekend, you might be out of luck.
Campfires are banned in much of the province.
Restrictions are already in place in Kamloops and the Cariboo and starting noon Friday in the Coastal region.
“They really don’t like to put a campfire ban in place unless they have to because we know how much people enjoy them.”
Information Officer Marg Drysdale says they still have a problem with campers who ignore bans.
“They put out about 500 campfires a year, so people still aren’t putting out their campfires. Some people just go ahead and burn and they think they know what they’re doing, they’ve always done it, so they go ahead and have their fires.’
Many of the the more 700 wildfires recorded this summer have been sparked by humans.
