CFL fines Lions Smith

Vancouver, BC, Canada / (CKNW AM) AM980

The CFL has banged B.C. Lions DE Khareem Smith an undisclosed amount for his pregame warmup encounter with Montreal DB Mike Edam Saturday night.

The two had words on the field prior to the game, with Smith taking exception and throwing a wild round house right at Edam before squaring off and striking the traditional fighters pose.

Other players and coaches swept in before any more damage was done, but what was done was enough for the league to step in and fine the guy who threw the only punch.

Once the actual game started it was the rest of the Lions who ultimately KO’d  the Alouettes 41-5 although Smith himself chipped in with a huge blocked punt that led to a B.C. touchdown late in the 1st half.  Smith ran untouched past the aforementioned Mike Edam on that play.

BC plays host to Winnipeg this Friday night, riding a 2 game win streak.
