Tumbler Ridge evacuation order lifted for oil and gas camp workers

Vancouver, BC, Canada / (CKNW AM) AM980

An evacuation order has been lifted for 2-hundred oil and gas camp workers near Tumbler Ridge as crews continue to battle a 35-thousand hectare wildfire near Red Deer Creek.

But that doesn’t mean they will be able to return to work.

Fire Information Officer Jillian Kelsh says the Wildfire Management Branch has issued an area restriction order.

“Based on the fact that it is still a growing fire, the fire is not contained at this time, the oil and gas camps were no longer at threat by the fire, but we just want to make sure that the people in and around that area are limited to those that only need to be there.”

81 firefighters and 21 helicopters continue to battle the blaze which is 10-percent contained.
