Crash involving TransLink bus closes Massey Tunnel

Vancouver, BC, Canada / (CKNW AM) AM980

A frightening experience for the driver of an SUV and those on board a TransLink bus this evening.

Corporal Robert McDonald with RCMP E Division Traffic Services says the two got into a head-on crash.

“The driver was taken to local hospital with serious injuries, there was approximately 35 passengers on the transit bus, none of them were injured.”

He says while the driver of the SUV’s injuries are serious, they are not life-threatening.

The northbound lanes of the Massey Tunnel are still closed.

Translink says riders can expect bus delays on routes between Bridgeport and Tsawwassen until at least midnight.

  1. I hope all the bus passengers had their seat belts on.

I recall years ago less than 1 km away when a bus was speeding (crash tests found to be a fact) along the HOV lane on #99 just before the tunnel and it hit a stationary dumpster.
Two women went through the windshield.

The that accident’s investigation recommendation was for seat belts on highway buses, but…

That’s no longer necessary because politicians have found that they can build a bridge an over toll it and actually make money.
    Once again…the car driver pays.
