North Shore Rescue recovering from cache thefts

A week after $22,000 in equipment was stolen from two different caches in Hanes Valley and Norvan Falls in the span of two days, North Shore Rescue is slowly replacing what was lost.

Volunteer Doug Pope wanted to thank generous donors and the community for helping replace the stolen equipment.

“We were really grateful we got a $10,000 donation from London Drugs. We’ve also noticed an increased donation amount through our website. People are donating online, so that’s helping us and we’re really appreciative of the support we’ve seen from the community to help us through this situation.”

While there are no leads at the moment, Pope is asking anyone in the community to keep a vigilant eye on anyone with rescue gear.

“We’ve been working very closely however with the RCMP. They’re actively investigating. We’re hoping we’ll get some kind of break in the case. For example, if anybody sees the gear in or around town, that would be a good lead. We ask they contact North Van RCMP and let them know.”
