Coquitlam councillor sounds off on Translink proposed route changes

Residents in Coquitlam were given the opportunity this afternoon to speak out against TransLink’s Phase 3 of the Northeast Sector Area Transit Plan.

The plan, which could see bus routes like the 143 from Coquitlam Centre to Simon Fraser University eliminated, doesn’t make sense to Coquitlam City Councillor Brent Asmundson.

“It doesn’t address the internal needs of residents. It’s a draft plan that doesn’t hit the mark yet; it needs a lot more work.”

Added Asmundson: ”There’s areas that were getting bus service that are no longer going to be getting bus services in the Poirier and Hillcrest area. We need service up in the Burke Mountain area today, not in two years time.”

Asmundson also suggests the TransLink continues to extend the public input process and take the proposal to the Tri-City Transit Task Force for more feedback.

The consultation process will end on July 14, when Translink will consider changes to the document before finalizing it in September.
