Alyssa Alanis can’t remember the night she almost died after getting in the car with a drunk driver.
The 23-year old is sharing her story as the survivor of a double-fatal crash – one that left her with a severe brain injury – in the hopes others will realize how much they have to lose by taking a similar risk.
“There will always be a consequence, with every choice we make. And this consequence could change your life, or it could change other people’s lives. That consequence could kill.”
In February of 2010, Alanis was seriously injured after the impaired driver of the car she was in crashed.
“I can’t remember things, and there are too many challenges that … the things I used to be able to do I can’t anymore. Such as schooling, college, and I can’t work anymore.”
Two the seven people inside the vehicle, including her boyfriend, died.
Her story is part of the start of a Canada-wide impaired driving enforcement campaign.
