Former provincial MLAs mull municipal election runs

More than a few former provincial politicians could be on the ballot in this November’s municipal elections.

Former Cariboo North Independent MLA Bob Simpson will challenge Mary Sjostrom for the Quesnel mayors chair.

“I think Mary has put a lot of time and energy into the community as both a councillor and a mayor. I just think it is a different community now. It is no longer a community that can rest on the laurels of the forest industry. It requires some seriousness and deliberateness though that is going to be a tough transition.”

Former Liberal MLA Randy Hawes says no decision yet but tells CKNW he is 95% sure he will run for his old civic job as mayor of Mission.

And in Chilliwack former MLAs John Les and Gwen O’Mahony are also considering mayoral campaigns.
