World Cup 2014: France 5 – Switzerland 2

France 5 (Giroud, Matuidi, Valbuena, Benzema, Sissoko) – Switzerland 2 (Dzemaili, Xhaka)

It rained goals all match long between France and Switzerland, but it was France that would do all the scoring for the bulk of the match, starting with two goals in the span of a minute with Olivier Giroud and Blaise Matuidi scoring in the 17th and 18th minute.  Late in the first half France would earn a penalty but Karim Benzema’s effort would be saved by Diego Bengalio, Yohan Cabaye put the rebound off the crossbar.  Mathieu Valbuena would pot in another one for France just before half time, and in the 2nd half Benzema would get his goal before Moussa Sissoko would wrap up the scoring on the French side. The Swiss would get a couple back late as Blerim Dzemaili and Granit Xhaka would respond, but it was France that was rampant on the day in Salvador, Brazil as they take the 5-2 win and passage into the round of 16.
