Canucks return to Whistler for 2014 Training Camp

Vancouver, BC, Canada / (CKNW AM) AM980

The Vancouver Canucks announced on Thursday that their 2014 Training Camp will be held in Whistler, BC from September 19-22, 2014. The decision to return to Whistler after a few years at different locales was no doubt encouraged and approved by new team president Trevor Linden who has always enjoyed spending time in and taking part in all the outdoor recreation the world class resort town has to offer.

Players will initially report to Rogers Arena on September 18th for medicals and testing, before making their way up the sea to sky highway on Friday the 19th for the three day camp.  The team will return to Vancouver on September 22nd.

The Canucks Training Camp will see all on-ice practice session in Whistler at Meadow Park Sports Centre open and complimentary to the public.  A full roster, schedule and media opportunities will be released at a later date.

Heading to Whistler will likely be a refreshing change of scenery for Canucks players and staff after the organization kept it bare bones and simple last September by holding training camp at Rogers Arena following the lockout shortened 2012-2013 season.   In recent years the Team has moved training camp around British Columbia including Victoria, Courtney, Powell River, Duncan, Parksville, Kamloops, Vernon and Whistler.  In the Canucks first four years of NHL existence in the early 1970’s they held training camp out of Province in Calgary, Alberta and in 2000 the team held camp out of country, in Stockholm, Sweden.

  1. Who cares! NW seems to spend an inordinate amount of time and space on this business when there are FAR more important issues surrounding our world (that could go up in flames in the middle east) and within our province. I’ve heard enough of these millionaire whiners and their (didn’t they call them slum landlords?) owners.
