Bridge worker rescued from Fraser River

A worker has been rescued after he fell into the river under the Pattullo Bridge.

Surrey Assistant Fire Chief Steve Robinson says they got a call of a person in the water around 2:30.

“We have crews responding with RCMP, New West fire, and we’ve also notified Coast Guard and BC Ambulance.”

CKNW has learned the worker has been pulled from the water by a tugboat and is being taken to Westminster Quay.

A caller says the person likely fell from the rail bridge under the Pattullo.

  1. Hopefully he will be okay. I find it unbelievable the contractor, working over water like that, does not have a rescue boat and crew on standby at all times. Profit over safety is the norm.
