Accused pimp argues he was just “providing security” for underage prostitutes

Vancouver, BC, Canada / (CKNW AM) AM980

Days after the federal government introduced new prostitution legislation targeting pimps and johns, a Vancouver man, accused of exploiting girls as young as 14, continues to deny he’s a human
trafficker.

Reza Moazami is charged with 36 crimes involving 11 victims.

During closing submissions before BC Supreme Court Justice Catherine Bruce, his lawyer is suggesting he had no idea many of the young women working ‘with’ and not ‘for’ him were under age.

Karen Bastow doesn’t deny the accused was living off the avails of prostitution, but claims he never ‘controlled’ sex trade workers featured in ads to make them look younger because “men buying sex want young girls. It’s a business decision. It’s marketing.”

The judge disagreed saying, ‘In light of the evidence,’ it’s clear these girls had makeup ‘caked’ on their faces in those ads.

Bastow’s submissions are expected to wrap up today with Crown Counsel slated to last the rest of the week.
