Clinic poster sparks complaint to Ombudsperson

Three people in their twenties are  fighting the closure of a west side Vancouver youth clinic, and have filed a complaint with BC’s Ombudsperson over what they say is misinformation from Coastal Health.

Sylvanna Baugh says Coastal Health has put posters up at the Pine Free Clinic, saying essentially that nothing is changing, and that they are not accurate.

”It makes if harder to bring attention to the fact that the Pine Street Clinic is going to close when there’s a poster saying all nine clinics in Vancouver are going to remain open.”

Baugh says her understanding is the only way Pine and many other clinics will remain open is if doctors come forward to open it as a fee-for-service facility and that its days as a clinic for youth are done.

She says all they are asking for is a debate or discussion with Coastal Health over the importance of a youth dedicated clinic — but the requests are falling on deaf ears.
