UPDATE: Three injured in mid-day gunfire outside Yaletown apartment and Science World, police say

Vancouver, BC, Canada / (CKNW AM) AM980

A man is in custody and another man has been taken to hospital with gunshot wounds after shots were  fired outside a Yaletown Starbucks and Science World late this morning.

One officer responding to the scene at Science World was also injured.

Vancouver police say they arrived at a Davie Street and Marinaside Crescent around 11 a.m. to find the injured man. He was taken to the ER in serious condition.

Eyewitnesses say he is Paul Dragan, who owns the Reckless bike shop in Yaletown.

The suspect fled on a bicycle, and police caught up with him by Science World where more gunfire was exchanged. He and an officer were injured before the suspect was arrested.

Reporter Kathryn Stewart describes the scene at Davie and Marinaside:¬†“There is glass all over the place, there is police tape all over the place, and what looks like blood-stained rags on the street here.”

She says several windows on the building’s ground level have been shot out, while others are riddled with holes.

Science World was sent into lockdown with about 50 children, caregivers and staff on site.

She says eyewitnesses report hearing four to five shots.

Maureen Brown tells CKNW says she got a text message from her son, who works at the Triple Os restaurant inside the Science World across False Creek.

“He told me there was a shooting there and it actually came through into their area.”

Reporter Janet Brown reports about 50 children and teachers were temporarily locked down in Science World.

She adds a third person may have been injured in the gunfire.
