Vancouver police are investigating the city’s seventh murder of the year.
Constable Brian Montague says around 11:30 last night, police were called to a home on Gladstone Street near East 29th avenue, where they found a 33-year-old man at the entrance of his house, suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. He has now been identified as Thanh Tung Tran of Vancouver. Police say he was known to them.
“This is a fairly quiet residential neighbourhood in East Vancouver. We did receive several 911 calls with regarding the sounds of gunfire. We have spoken to everyone that contacted 911, we also will be doing a canvas of the neighbourhood to speak with anyone that may have heard or seen something.”
Montague says this does appear to be a targeted attack, but says it’s too early to say if it was gang related.
Residents that live in the area say they thought they lived in a fairly safe area.
Dennis Martin lives in the Gladstone and East 29th area and says he never sees violence near his home.
“Normally it’s really quiet, you don’t see nothing going on at all. You know, you see a lot of people coming and going in those houses there, but never any problem, they never say anything much to you.”
Martin says he thinks it had to be an isolated incident and doesn’t feel any less safe at home.
Police do not have any suspects in custody.
