"Hobbit House" in Vancouver will not be demolished

A so-called Hobbit House in Vancouver will not be demolished.

Vancouver City Council passed an application to restore and protect the heritage home at 587 West King Edward Street after a public hearing Tuesday night.

“When the applicant came forward with a proposal that not only saved the house, but put in a very modest amount of housing around it so it maintained its prominence on the street front, wasn’t moved out of its current location, and will be there for many more years to come, it was something very easy to support.”

Heritage liaison Heather Deal says three story townhouses will be built around the home.
