BC’s injured workers are giving the province’s compensation system a failing grade.
The Federation of labour marked Injured Workers’ Day on Sunday with a renewed call for improvements to BC’s workers’ compensation system and a restoration of benefits for injured workers.
President of the BC Federation of Labour, Jim Simclair, says Workers’ Compensation Boards (WCB) across the country have buckled to corporate pressure to cut benefits and compensation in order to lower premiums.
He says about one hundred injured workers and their supporters gathered Friday in Vancouver to examine how WCB measured up to Sir Chief Justice Meredith in what’s known as the “historic compromise” agreed to by labour and business over a hundred years ago.
The result… an “F” letter grade on all six principles.
