Two local schools have won a $3,000 Random Acts Class Act Award for their joint kindness initiative.
The Az-Zahraa Islamic Academy and the Richmond Jewish Day School worked together on a variety of projects to show they are not so different after all.
Jewish Day School teacher and co-organizer of the project Shoshana Burton the students decided to focus on homelessness in Vancouver for one of their projects.
“When they met they were so curious about each other and so accepting and respectful of each other’s cultures that we were so touched by their response.”
The eleven and twelve year old students handed out thousands of lunch-bags in the Downtown Eastside.
They plan on donating their prize money to a local homeless charity.
