Dog owners will be gathering in full force at Vancouver’s Trout Lake Dog Park to protest planned cuts to the off-leash area, and the upcoming full enclosure of the dog park.

The event – which starts at 12:30 this afternoon – aims to send a strong message to the Vancouver Park Board that as off-leash space in the city dwindles, “the Trout Lake off-leash area is more important than ever.”

The “Save Trout Lake Dog Day” Facebook page states that thousands of people have already signed petitions and written letter to the the park Board in support of the off-leash area, and petitions will also be passed around today.

The Park Board’s Master Plan for Trout Lake includes a proposed 80 percent cut to the off-leash area.
