Police are searching for a shooter who took aim at a cyclist early this morning in the Fraser Canyon.
RCMP Constable Kris Clark says Mounties in Lytton were called to the scene on Highway 1 just south of Spences Bridge around 1am.
There they found a 59-year old Burnaby man who was shot while taking part in a 600 kilometer cycling event called the Cache Creek 600.
“The initial investigation suggests that this was not targeted, and that there was a single shooter that fled the scene in a pickup truck.”
Clark says the attack appears to have been “totally random”.
As for worries about public safety, he says “There’s no information that I can give that would allay any fears. I don’t have any information on either side of that really.”
The cyclist is in hospital in stable condition.
Anyone with information is asked to call Lytton RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
