RCMP investigating after cyclist shot during Cache Creek 600

Vancouver, BC, Canada / (CKNW AM) AM980

Police are searching for a shooter who took aim at a cyclist early this morning in the Fraser Canyon.

RCMP Constable Kris Clark says Mounties in Lytton were called to the scene on Highway 1 just south of Spences Bridge around 1am.

There they found a 59-year old Burnaby man who was shot while taking part in a 600 kilometer cycling event called the Cache Creek 600.

“The initial investigation suggests that this was not targeted, and that there was a single shooter that fled the scene in a pickup truck.”

Clark says the attack appears to have been “totally random”.

As for worries about public safety, he says ‚ÄúThere’s no information that I can give that would allay any fears. I don’t have any information on either side of that really.”

The cyclist is in hospital in stable condition.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lytton RCMP or Crime Stoppers.

Comments

  1. how the hell can a deliberate act of shooting at a specific target be termed totally random ?
Seems to me the only thing that might be random here is which cyclist was the selected target

  2. He must be a Guy that comments about bike paths and has a hatred of all people on a bike like most who comment here! Your hatred of cyclists must be spilling over to the burbs! People should realize that some are crazy out there and your hatred could be tipped over the edge. God! Help us cyclist and to the injured man God speed in regaining your health!
